38-Years-Family-Owned 1961 Volkswagen Single Cab Transporter

I found this flatbed here in San Diego, a 1961 VW Bus T 1. The owner unfortunately passed away and was unable to complete the project. The late seller purchased the bus 38 years ago and then started restoring it. Originally the bus was gray and now after extensive work it has been painted two-tone white/ dark gray.

The interior bench seat has been reupholstered. The engine was replaced with a rebuilt replacement unit with two carburetors and electronic ignition from PerTronix. The underbody looks very nice! The T1 has the sought after extras of safari windows and fog lights as well as the export bumpers which suggests it was exported to the US when new.

Well-preserved VW Transporters are rare. Most of them were used up. The wood trim for the flatbed as well as the trim for the interior are included in the sale, as well as documentation of work done and the missing rear hubcaps. The car is on offer here now with the auction price at US$ 18.000.
